• Melanin is produced by melanocytes. Contain an enzyme known as Tyrosinase which is directly stimulated by UV Rays
• It is produced in the Stratum Germinativum.
• Its function is to protect the skin from the suns rays. It does not contain total protection but darker skins will be able to tolerate the sun for longer periods of time before burning as oppose to fairer skins
